Go back to the same shortcut menu and this time select Format Page Numbers… In the resulting dialog select the option Start this section with: and enter 1 as your page number. You can now specify where the page numbering should appear. Right-click on any page thumbnail in section 2 and select Page Numbers from the shortcut menu. Now the section break has been created you can apply the page numbering. In our example we right-click the page 2 thumbnail: because we are using a two page master we also need to specify which page the section is placed before – the left page. To insert a section break, right-click on the page thumbnail that you want to insert a section before and then select Insert Section in the shortcut menu. As we want the numbering to be applied from page 2 and onward, the section break needs to be applied between pages 1 and 2. To assign different page settings to different parts of your publication you will need to insert a section break. You can now close the master page view by clicking on the Close Master Page button on the Ribbon. The next dialog gives you the option to apply the master page to a range of pages – in our example we have specified page 2 and onwards. Select the master page you have created in the Page Navigation Pane and then on the Ribbon click the Apply To menu and select Apply Master Page…. We can now apply the master page we have created to page 2 and onwards. You can add a description when prompted, but this is not required. To create a new master page click the Add Master Page button on the Ribbon as shown below. Master pages provide one place where you can update all common elements this way. Watch the video and/or follow these step-by-step instructions. You can achieve this with a combination of master pages and sections.
